As I mentioned in my previous post, the Hoover Dam was one of the things that was really high on my list. It just intrigues me so much that people can build such a colossal concrete arch, even back in 1931, when construction begun. On top of that, they finished the whole project within five years! Taking the tour, that allows you to go into the dam (161 metres down!), just underscores this feeling. The idea that 80 years back, thousands of people worked 24/7 (with only two days off per year – Thanksgiving and Christmas) to dig the tunnels you’re walking through is just unreal. The history of it all really touched me; this was definitely one of those defining moments!
