ANDAMAN SEA | KOH HONG

Finally I get to take you to this incredibly beautiful place, Koh Hong, which is the largest of the three islands (read about Koh Lading and Koh Pakbia here and here) we visited. What’s most special about this island is the lagoon, with its bright blue water, trees popping out the water here and there, surrounded by the limestone karsts that proudly rise up to the sky; it almost felt unreal.

When we exchanged the speedboat for a kayak to do a trip around the island, we headed to the lagoon again. Except us, there was just one other boat that we didn’t even notice at first, because the motor was off. That was such an exceptional moment, because it felt like it was just us on this breath taking location. The tranquillity gave me goose bumps even though the afternoon sun was burning on my skin!

Before we got to the lagoon we explored some of the limestone caves that can only be entered by kayak, because of the rocks that lie just beneath the water. It was quite exhilarating to be able to go our own way around the island and being able to see everything from up close. When we turned a corner and almost reached the lagoon we suddenly saw a beautiful hidden white beach, with no one on it! We felt like we had discovered a deserted island, so we stopped and took a dip to celebrate it.

I can only imagine what it would be like to have a boat and explore places like the Andaman Sea. It really gives you another perspective of the world seeing things from the water instead of land. Something I’ll be dreaming about and hopefully someday this will become reality as well!

Back on the island we still had thirty minutes that I spent on a quiet place in the shadow, overlooking the entire width of Hong Island’s largest beach. It got me thinking about my life before traveling, always going through countless photos on the internet, in magazines and brochures to feed my wanderlust. And now I’m here, lying on a beach in one of the most beautiful places I’ve ever been… Someone please pinch me?!

What are some of the most beautiful places you've ever seen? And what are the things that you're still dreaming about?
